Silicon Hydrogel Contacts

O2 Optix may just be the most tirelessly advertised contact lenses around. Sometimes it seems every time I turn on the TV, there's another commercial for O2 Optix. So what's the big deal? Allow me to explain.

O2 Optix are 2-week soft contact lenses made of a material called silicon hydrogel, which is the same material used in extended wear contact lenses. The biggest claim to fame for O2 Optix is their revolutionary new increase in oxygen permeability. This increases the amount of oxygen that can get to your eyes.

The Optix Advantage

Common symptoms of lack of oxygen (corneal oxygen deficiency) include red, itchy, scratchy, dry eyes and if you've ever worn contact lenses (especially for an extended period of time), there's a good chance you've experienced these symptoms on at least a few occasions. O2 Optix can significantly reduce the occurrence of these symptoms simply by maximizing the amount of oxygen reaching the eye. This can allow you to wear the contacts for longer periods of time during the day. Another feature of this new design of contact lenses is a reduction in protein build-up.

Lens Care System

Since O2 Optix lenses are relatively new, it is that much more important that you abide by the lens care system and the solution solution provided by your optometrist. If you have any problems with the solution, you must see your doctor before changing to a different solution. In the future, it is likely that an entirely new line of solutions will become available specifically for daily wear silicon hydrogel lenses.

O2 Optix make an ideal lens for those individuals who have had difficulty wearing lenses in the past due to irritation and dry eyes.
