Colored Contact Lenses

It's safe and it's fun!

Have you ever wondered how you would look with blue eyes? Brown eyes? How about green or violet? Almost everyone has the option of wearing colored contacts these days. They are available in toric, bifocal, and multifocal varieties, as well as for individuals with simple nearsightedness or farsightedness. In fact, you don't even need to have a prescription in order to wear color contact lenses! With such variety and convenience, why not experiment with your eye color? It's safe and it's fun!

There are four basic types of colored contact lenses: enhancement tint, opaque color tint, light-filtering tint, and visibility tint. Of these, the enhancement tint and opaque color tint contact lenses are intended to cosmetically change the color of your eyes. Light-filtering tint colored contact lenses are intended to enhance color vision, such as enhancing the yellowy-green of a tennis ball. And lastly visibility tint colored contacts are used exclusively for assisting with locating the lens when it's not in your eyes.

Enhancement Tint Lenses

Enhancement tint lenses have an obvious tint and are intended to change the eye color of the wearer. Such color change, however, is generally only effective for individuals with light-colored eyes such as blue, hazel, or green. They are a great way to make subtle changes to your eye color.

Opaque Color Tint Lenses

If you have brown eyes and wish to wear contacts that change your eye color, you want opaque color tint contact lenses. These contacts have a very distinct and obvious color pattern designed to mimic the appearance of an actual iris. It's important to keep in mind that opaque color tint lenses can affect vision in individuals with large pupils.

As a brown-eyed brunette, I've often envied the blue-eyed beauties; blue eyes have the power to captivate a crowd. Not only are they startlingly beautiful, but they're also light in color. For years this has allowed blue-eyed individuals to enjoy the opportunity of using contact lenses to change their eye color using enhancement tint lenses. But finally, recent advancements such as opaque colored contacts have given those with darker eyes the opportunity to change their eye color. Now my eyes can be any color I wish, even though my eyes are naturally dark brown!

Light-filtering lenses

Light-filtering lenses are relatively new to the market. These lenses are especially valuable to tennis players and golfers, as they enhance certain colors (yellow, for example) such that the tennis or golf ball will stand out against the background. These lenses are relatively new, so you can expect to see some changes and advancements in the near future.
