Contact Lens FAQs
Can Contact Lenses Cause Cornea Damage?
With proper contact lens care and use, it is extremely difficult for contact lenses to cause damage to the cornea (the clear part of your eye onto which a contact lens sits). However, improper use of contact lenses, such as wearing daily wear contacts
overnight
can put the contact lens wearer at risk for an
eye infection,
which has the potential to cause serious damage to the cornea.
Swimming with contact lenses
can also increase the risk of eye infection. Under no circumstances should you share contact lenses with anyone, or buy contact lenses without a
prescription.
This results in contact lenses that do not fit properly, and also transfer of bacteria which can also lead to an eye infection.
