Can a contact lens get lost behind your eye?

Most definitely not. It can certainly feel like it, however, in that sickening moment when you realize that you can no longer see your contact lens on your eye. What can often happen (particularly when a contact lens is dry or a person rubs his/her eye too vigorously), is that a contact lens can become lodged in the space between the upper eyelid and the eyeball. Try looking in the direction of where you think the contact lens is. This may just be enough to coax the contact lens back onto your cornea (the clear part of your eye) and it will return to its place once you look forward again. If this doesn't work, you can try gently massaging your upper eyelid with your finger in an attempt to move the contact lens down. Be cautious when doing this, however, as the contact lens may be folded up and might scratch your eye. Try to coax the contact lens away from your cornea as much as possible. If this doesn't work, a final resort for you is a visit to your optometrist. Optometrists have special techniques and tools for viewing all parts of the eye and will be able to get the contact lens out for you.
