Can I wear my contacts past the replacement schedule?

A common question: If my contact lenses are still comfortable, can I continue to wear the same pair of contact lenses past the two-week limit my doctor told me?

Adhering to the replacement schedule that your optometrist advises you is in your best interest, this schedule ensures optimum health of your eyes. Even if your eyes still feel fine past the two-week limit, the contact lenses should still be replaced. Many contacts are only designed to be worn for two weeks and will become compromised if worn past their due date. This can lead to build-up on the lenses, which can be irritating and may even lead to infection or abrasions. If you would prefer to change your replacement schedule you should talk to your eye doctor about either changing contact lenses or adjusting your wearing schedule.

Daily disposable lenses, should never be worn past one day, as they are composed of such high water content that they are not designed to last past one day. Wearing daily disposable lenses past one day may result in lens tearing.
